The JST (Jeonbuk Saemangeum Tech) Shared University, operated under the Regional Innovation-centered University Support System (RISE Project), produced 312 program completers over the past year and has achieved visible outcomes, including contributing to the resolution of technical challenges faced by regional companies through graduate student–led industry–university collaboration.

The Jeonbuk Saemangeum Tech Platform University Headquarters at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (Head: Choi Jinha), which established and operates the "Jeonbuk Saemangeum Tech (JST) Shared University (Graduate School)" as an innovation platform involving 11 universities in the Jeonbuk region through the RISE Project, held the "2025 JST Shared University Results Sharing Meeting" on the 13th at the Jeonju Areumdawoon Convention. The meeting shared the achievements in nurturing regionally innovative talent over the past year. About 100 people attended, including Moon Seong‑cheol, Director General for Special Education Cooperation of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, Lee Dong‑heon, Vice President of JBNU, representatives from local universities, and officials from related organizations.

At the results sharing meeting, presentations focused on educational innovation outcomes following the transition to the RISE system. Presentations covered curriculum operation and examples of improving educational quality, achievements in laboratory and practical coursework, results from problem-solving Project Labs, and outstanding examples of participation in the curriculum.

The JST Shared University has been operating interdisciplinary majors linked to Jeonbuk’s core industries—such as future mobility, new energy industries, and agricultural life & bio—to build a regionally tailored talent development model. Through the joint education system involving 11 universities in the Jeonbuk region, the program selected its first cohort of 247 freshmen for the 2024 academic year. In the 2025 academic year, it produced a total of 312 completers across microdegree, minor, and double-major programs. Selection of 330 freshmen for the 2026 academic year has also been completed.

Progress has continued at the graduate level. In September of last year, five universities in the province, including JBNU, jointly established an interdisciplinary specialized track within the JST Shared Graduate School. Sixty-six graduate students are currently enrolled, and graduate student–led research and industry–university collaboration are being actively pursued.

In particular, industry–university collaboration linked with regional companies has been used to address technical difficulties and generate outcomes. In the 2024 academic year, around 40 students across five teams participated. In the 2025 academic year, participation expanded to approximately 80 students across 11 teams. These collaborative research efforts aim for academic paper publication, patent filings, and technology transfer.

At the same time, employment and start‑up support programs aimed at fostering talent who will settle in the region have produced results. In 2025, the JST Shared University operated the "Do‑Dream Challenge" idea competition and career, employment, and start‑up linkage programs. In the National Food Cluster company analysis competition, the SAT team, which included JST Shared University students, won the grand prize.

Choi Jinha, Head of the Jeonbuk Saemangeum Tech Platform University, stated, "In line with the transition to the RISE system, we will further refine the region‑led joint education model and generate sustainable educational and research outcomes through cooperation among the region, universities, industry, and research institutions."
