Professor Emeritus Hye‑Kyung Kim (JBNU Department of Sociology), a leading scholar in Korean women's studies, donated 10 million won to the university development fund, requesting that it be used for university development and the cultivation of future scholars.

Professor Emeritus Kim served as a professor in the Department of Sociology at JBNU from 2004 to 2024, a period of 20 years. She has systematically researched Korea's family history, gender sociology, and family policy, and is one of the country's leading scholars in women's studies.

In particular, Professor Kim led the development of Korean women's studies as director of the JBNU Women's Research Institute and as the 33rd president of the Korean Association for Women's Studies. She has also served as a welfare committee member of the Korean Women's Associations United and as a board member of the Jeonbuk Women's Human Rights Support Center, taking a leading role in local women's movements and field-based practice, thereby serving as a bridge between theory and practice.

Professor Emeritus Hye‑Kyung Kim said, "I hope our students will continue to pursue deeper research in the fields of women's studies and sociology to which I have devoted my life. I will continue to support the JBNU Department of Sociology as a cradle of talent with the insight to read the times."

The university said it will establish the donated funds as a designated scholarship for the Department of Sociology and, in accordance with the donor's wishes, will use them to support students' academic studies and related needs.
