Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held a 'Love Briquette Sharing' volunteer activity on December 23 to extend compassion to neighbors in need at the end of the year and to assist energy-vulnerable households in the local community.
Some 50 people, including Vice-President Lee Jon-hwa and other senior JBNU officials and staff, participated and personally delivered 1,500 briquettes across the Seungam Village area in Jeonju, bringing warmth to local residents.
Despite the chilly weather, participants moved briquettes one by one and reflected on the meaning of year-end sharing.
Vice-President Lee Jon-hwa said, "It is a small gesture, but I hope it will provide warm comfort to neighbors spending the winter," adding, "As a flagship national university, we will continue to steadfastly practice the public mission and the values of solidarity that keep us connected with the local community."
Through this volunteer activity, JBNU practiced mutual growth with the local community and provided tangible assistance to neighbors struggling with heating costs during the winter. The university plans to continue various social contribution activities to strengthen its role as an institution that works together with the region.
