JBNU completed the "Korean Language Teacher Level-3 Training Course," operated as part of the Glocal University 30 Project, and established a foundation for training teaching personnel to systematically support Korean language education for foreign residents in the region.
JBNU Division of Language Education's Korean Language Institute announced on the 23rd that it operated the "Korean Language Teacher Level-3 Training Course" as in-person instruction from September 8 this year until recently, and produced a total of 23 graduates over approximately four months.
The graduates completed 135 hours of instruction covering theories of Korean language education and teaching and learning methods, thereby systematically acquiring foundational competencies immediately applicable in local Korean language education settings.
The program was implemented proactively to respond to the steadily growing demand for Korean language education across daily life, employment, and education, due to an increase in resident foreign populations in the Jeonbuk region.
In particular, as the importance of tailored instruction that considers learners' proficiency and life context grows, a primary objective was to secure a pool of Korean language teachers who can reliably operate in local settings such as the Namwon Glocal Campus.
It is also significant that by training prospective Korean language teachers capable of working domestically and abroad, the program presents a model for human resource development that simultaneously addresses local talent cultivation and global educational demand.
JBNU Division of Language Education's Korean Language Institute plans to use this program as an opportunity to further enhance on-site responsiveness and the quality of Korean language education for local foreign residents, and to progressively expand the pool of Korean language teachers able to respond immediately to regional demand.
In addition, it intends to strengthen links with local educational sites to continuously enhance the effectiveness of the Korean language education support system in the Jeonbuk region.
Jo Hwarim, Director of the Office of International Affairs at JBNU, said, "I hope this Korean language teacher training course will serve as an important starting point for the expansion of Korean language education in the Jeonbuk region," adding, "The university will continue to strengthen institutional linkages and support next year as well so that the graduates can demonstrate their expertise in local settings."
