JBNU's '1,000-Won Breakfast,' operated to reduce students' financial burdens and promote healthy eating habits, has been selected as a national best practice.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agency of Education, Culture and Information for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries announced on the 17th that they had recently selected 14 universities, including JBNU, as national best practices out of some 200 participating universities nationwide. JBNU plans to use this recognition to further expand the program.

'1,000-Won Breakfast' is a program designed to provide students with low-cost breakfasts in an era of high prices. This year it operated for 119 days from March 5 to November 11.

Excluding vacations and holidays, it is offered daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Cooperative Welfare Hall of the student cooperative, and has been well received by students.

JBNU increased the university's own subsidy from 1,000 won to 2,000 won to expand the program qualitatively and quantitatively, and increased the number of meals served from 24,000 last year to 30,000 this year. It also raised the per-meal cost from 5,000 won last year to 6,000 won this year, significantly improving menu quality.

Currently, the '1,000-Won Breakfast' is supported by 2,000 won from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, 1,000 won from both Jeonbuk Province and Jeonju City, and 2,000 won from JBNU. This support structure enables stable program operation.

JBNU plans to further expand the program next year to strengthen student welfare, serving 250 people per day for a total of 130 days, reaching 32,500 people.

President Yang Oh-bong said, "The '1,000-Won Breakfast' has established itself as JBNU's flagship student welfare program, reducing students' financial burdens while helping them develop healthy eating habits. In line with being selected as a national best practice, we will actively support the program so that even more students can start their day with a reliable meal."
