Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held the "Research‑Institute‑Specific Forum on University–Research Institute Collaborative Research Outcomes" over two days, December 16 and 17, to share the outcomes of university–research institute collaborative research, which is being promoted as a core strategy of the Glocal University 30 project.

Following last year’s completion of four collaborative research projects with two research institutes, the Korea Food Research Institute and the Jeonbuk Research Institute, JBNU greatly expanded its collaboration this year to eight research institutes and 15 projects.

Participating institutions this year included the National Toxicology Science Institute, the Fermentation Microorganism Industry Promotion Institute, the ECO Convergence Textile Research Institute, the Jeonbuk Research Institute, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, the Korea Basic Science Institute, and the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency, forming a broad network that encompassed regional research institutions across the board.

This year’s university–research institute collaborative research achieved tangible results, publishing 20 papers in international journals. Observers assess that as the collaboration network between the university and research institutes has become firmly established, a foundation has been laid for building a regional innovation ecosystem.

The outcomes forum also reflected this extensiveness. On December 16, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and the Korea Basic Science Institute participated and presented eight research outcomes. On December 17, the National Toxicology Science Institute, the Fermentation Microorganism Industry Promotion Institute, the ECO Convergence Textile Research Institute, the Jeonbuk Research Institute, and the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency presented seven research results.

The research areas included new materials and electronic materials; bio and life sciences; environment and carbon reduction; energy and electrical safety; and regional policy. These demonstrated that collaboration between JBNU and regional research institutes is expanding in a multidisciplinary manner.

Lee Jon-hwa, Executive Vice‑President of Research, said, "Cooperation between the university and research institutes not only produces research outcomes but also serves as an important stepping stone for JBNU to leap forward as a hub of regional innovation. We will continue to strengthen the cooperation network and accelerate innovative research to create a sustainable regional R&D ecosystem."
