Fifty-six researchers affiliated with Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) have been selected as ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists,’ a list jointly released by Stanford University and global publisher Elsevier.

This result is based on an analysis of roughly 9 million researchers worldwide using the standardized citation metric (C-Score). It is the third largest number among national flagship public universities when medical, dental, and hospital sectors are excluded.

The selection is a globally recognized certification of research influence announced by the Stanford research team based on Scopus data. It uses the C-score (Composite Score), which integrates six core indicators including a standardized citation index rather than simple citation counts, the h-index, the co-author-corrected hₘ-index, and contributions as single, first, or corresponding author.

The analysis was conducted separately on a career-long basis assessing research output from 1960 to 2024 and on a single-year basis evaluating performance in 2024.

JBNU has a total of 56 faculty members listed on the single-year basis. Major fields and representative faculty include: Enabling & Strategic Technologies — 정창규 교수, 트란듀이탄 교수; Chemistry — 김애란 강의초빙교수, 유동진 교수, 김용현 교수, 김정곤 교수; Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry — 이존화 교수, 황인호 교수, 강춘원 교수.

JBNU President Yang Oh‑bong stated, “This selection is an indicator that our university possesses world-class research influence and academic contributions across diverse disciplines.”

“Building on this research capability, we will expand international collaborative research and innovate the research ecosystem to grow into a global research hub university,” he added.
