Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Institute of French and African Studies (Director Professor Cho Hwa-rim) will host the 12th Civic Humanities Lecture featuring former Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su.
The lecture, to be held at 2:00 PM on December 10 in the JBNU Museum, is titled 'Conversation with Achebe' and will introduce the literary world of Chinua Achebe, one of Africa's leading writers and the winner of the 2007 Man Booker International Prize.
The Institute's civic humanities lectures, under the slogan 'Reading Africa With Citizens,' will take place in the auditorium on the second floor of the JBNU Museum. Members of the public interested in Africa and the humanities may attend freely without prior registration.
This program was planned as part of the Humanities and Social Sciences 3.0 (HK3.0) project in which the JBNU Institute of French and African Studies participates. It is an open humanities lecture for local citizens aimed at linking scholarship and society, sharing knowledge, and fostering a regional humanities ecosystem.
Director Cho Hwa-rim said, 'This lecture will be a meaningful opportunity to introduce Chinua Achebe and his works to citizens as a master of African literature,' and added, 'From next year, the new series of civic lectures will continue to share diverse and timely knowledge about Africa with the public.'
