Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) commissioned and operates the Deokjin-gu, Jeonju Children's Food Service Management Support Center Deokjin-gu, Jeonju Children's Food Service Management Support Center (Director No Jeong‑ok, Professor, Department of Food and Nutrition) announced that it conducted a "Mushroom Stories" education program using the Children's Food Experience Center to help children develop a proper understanding of food ingredients.

This program was held a total of 45 times in 2025 at the Children's Food Experience Center of the Deokjin-gu, Jeonju Children's Food Service Management Support Center, and 768 children from Deokjin-gu, Jeonju participated.

At the Experience Center, activities included "Mushroom Story Sharing," which explored types of mushrooms, nutrition, and growth processes; "Mushroom Play Activities," which taught growth stages through play; and "Mushroom Cooking Activities," in which children made pizza using mushrooms.

One teacher who participated in the training said, "Through the hands-on activities (play and cooking), it seems the children became interested in mushrooms, which they had usually refused to eat," and added, "It was impressive to see the children learning and participating with enjoyment."

Director No Jeong‑ok said, "Experiential nutrition education focused on foods that are often refused is a good opportunity for children to become familiar with ingredients on their own," and added, "I hope families will continue healthy eating habits by cooking mushroom dishes together with parents at home."

Meanwhile, since its opening in 2014, the Deokjin-gu, Jeonju Children's Food Service Management Support Center has provided support for nutrition, hygiene, and safety management to children's food service facilities that are not required to employ dietitians. It is operated with support from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Jeollabuk-do, and the City of Jeonju under Article 21 of the "Special Act on Children's Dietary Safety Management."
