Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Central Library (Director Seol Dong-hoon) has prepared two public cultural lectures in December to provide and share new humanities perspectives with local residents.

As part of the National University Development Project, the series titled 'Book Nook Cultural Salon: Opening Jeonbuk Through Culture' will feature JBNU Emeritus Professor Wang Eun-cheol (Department of English Language & Literature), a leading Korean scholar of literary translation, and Im Ju-a, owner of the Jeonju local bookstore 'Mulgyeol Seosa' and a poet.

First, on December 2, Professor Wang Eun-cheol will give a lecture titled 'What Is Translation: The Dynamics of Hospitality and Mourning.' Professor Wang has introduced more than 50 English-language literary translations to Korea, including The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Through major works such as Trauma and Literature and In Praise of Hospitality, he has led discourse on Korean literature and culture.

The lecture will illuminate the ethics and emotional structures revealed through translation, as well as literature's healing power.

On December 4, Im Ju-a, owner of the Jeonju local bookstore 'Mulgyeol Seosa' and a poet, will present a talk titled 'Poetry, Bookstores, and My Lively Survival Story.' She will vividly share her experiences of living as a creator in the region, including the poetry creation process, operating a local bookstore, and activities in the independent publishing scene. Im has been recognized as a young creator who is building the local cultural ecosystem herself.

Both lectures will be held at the JBNU Central Library Jungdo Lounge lecture hall, and each session will recruit 100 participants through advance and on-site registration.

Seol Dong-hoon, Director of the Central Library, said, 'As a regional national university library, sharing the humanities and cultural capabilities that JBNU possesses with the local community is an important mission,' adding, 'We will continue to expand opportunities for local residents, students, and international students to view Jeonbuk culture in new ways through books and lectures.'
