As part of the National University Development Project, a field‑tailored Monday career development lecture series for nursing students was held on November 24, 2025, at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) College of Nursing. The lecture attracted considerable interest with the invitation of Hye Ok Lee (PhD, RN, FAAN), a world‑renowned researcher in aging and health equity and a professor at Rory Meyers College of Nursing, New York University (NYU).

Professor Lee has long been active in the U.S. nursing community and is internationally recognized for her research on the health of Asian older adults, dementia (Alzheimer’s disease), health inequities among immigrant populations, and global health behavior. Notably, she is leading the large‑scale ACAD (Asian Cohort for Alzheimer’s Disease) project aimed at identifying dementia prevention and risk factors among Asian populations as its Principal Investigator (PI).

Professor Lee is also known for her outstanding leadership in community‑based research to reduce health inequities. The visit of a scholar with such global research achievements and networks to Jeonbuk National University was highly unusual and is regarded as a highly significant event for both students and faculty.

In her lecture titled "Successful Aging and Leadership," she emphasized the role of the nursing profession in preparing for a rapidly aging society, the importance of evidence‑based practice, and the global leadership competencies required in the field of global health. She also offered in‑depth advice on the core values and attitudes students should cultivate to grow into nurses, researchers, and practice leaders.

Building on this invited lecture, the JBNU College of Nursing has taken the first step toward establishing a global network, including research collaboration with NYU, participation in international collaborative research, and expanded student and faculty exchanges.

An official from the College of Nursing stated, "Inviting a researcher of global influence provided students with an opportunity to broaden their international perspectives," and expressed expectations for various future collaborative opportunities.

The lecture was more than a simple class for JBNU nursing students; it provided a meaningful occasion to directly engage with current trends in international nursing research and to reflect together on the vision of global leadership.
