The Woodworking Support Center, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (Director: Professor Seungwon Oh), which each year conducts outreach woodworking workshops for local residents and has received strong acclaim, held a furniture-making program with local residents this year as well and received an enthusiastic response from the community.
As part of the National University Development Project, the program was held three times through November and was attended by a total of 24 families (64 participants). During the experience, local residents trimmed and fitted wood themselves to create a multi-purpose shelving unit that can be used in daily life.
In particular, children who participated with their parents also had the opportunity to become familiar with wood through hands-on activities, such as sanding and applying wood glue, with the instructor's guidance.
Meanwhile, in September the Center visited 10 daycare centers (kindergartens) in Jeonju, Gunsan, Namwon, Jangsu, Muju, Sunchang and other locations, conducting a mood lamp-making activity using cypress for a total of 212 participants.
Professor Seungwon Oh, Director of the Woodworking Support Center, said, "The university shares its excellent infrastructure and capabilities with local residents and holds these annual outreach workshops to provide opportunities for the community to become familiar with our traditional woodworking culture. We plan to operate a variety of programs so that we can communicate with more local residents through traditional woodworking experiences."
