Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) will hold consecutive forums covering intellectual property (IP), cyber security, and biomedical life sciences on the 18th and 19th to strengthen regional innovation capabilities based on IP.

Hosted by the Office of Intellectual Property and the Korea Invention Promotion Association, and organized by the JBNU Intellectual Property Professional Workforce Training Project Group (Director Professor Song Cheol-gyu) and the University Innovation Project among others, the event will focus on strategies for protecting industrial technology, expanding start-up infrastructure, and creating an IP ecosystem for regional emerging industries.

On the first day, the 18th, from 10:00 a.m., the '2025 Bio-Medical Life Sciences–IP Bridge Seminar' will be held at the Saemangeum Hall and seminar room of the Clinical Research Support Center at Jeonbuk National University Hospital.

The seminar, aimed at strengthening IP-based capabilities to generate medical and bio innovations, will, together with the Institute of Biomedical Research at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, discuss an introduction to the IP project group, cooperation strategies in the bio-medical life sciences field, patent strategies for physician-scientists, and strategies to secure intellectual property rights in the medical sector.

In particular, experts from Green International Patent Law Office, IP project groups and others will participate to provide practical know-how on technology filing and rights acquisition. Lectures will also include an introduction to the Innovative Future Medical Research Center by Professor Ko Myung-hwan (School of Medicine) and a presentation by Research Professor Kang Seung-rok on physician-scientist patents at Jeonbuk National University Hospital and strategies for securing intellectual property rights in the bio-medical field.

Then on the 19th at 2:00 p.m., the '2025 Intellectual Property and Cybersecurity Enhancement Forum' will be held in the Glocal Hall on the 2nd floor of Jinsudang at JBNU.

Against a backdrop of increasing importance of technology leakage and industrial security in emerging industries such as AI, robotics, and advanced materials, the forum will comprehensively discuss IP protection and cyber security measures.

The forum includes special lectures on cyber threat trends and response activities (an expert who served at the National Intelligence Service) and measures to strengthen protection of industrial technology (National Security Strategy Institute and Chung-Ang University).

Also, the 'IP–Industry–Academia Co-Growth Startup IP Bridge Session' will feature presentations on IP-based start-up strategies and business models of IP cooperation project groups.

In the panel discussion, the former head of the National Intelligence Service's Incident Response Center, a professor from Chung-Ang University, and industry experts will participate to conduct an in-depth analysis of actual infringement cases and discuss future response directions.

Song Cheol-gyu, Director of the JBNU Intellectual Property Professional Workforce Training Project Group, said, 'We have been operating various programs to build IP-based R&D and a start-up ecosystem. Through this consecutive forum, we expect that the IP utilization and technology protection capabilities of regional universities, research institutions, and companies will be further strengthened.'
