Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Child Studies’ In-Service Training Project Group for Childcare Staff (Project Group Director Professor Kim Tae-yeon) has successfully completed the 2025 in-service training for childcare staff at daycare centers across the province. The Project Group announced on the 17th that it provided training for approximately 680 childcare staff over nine sessions held from March 29 to November 15.

In-service training for daycare childcare staff is mandatory education designed to strengthen the job skills and professionalism of incumbent teachers. It includes required content for job performance such as General Job Training (40 hours) and Promotion Training (80 hours). This year, JBNU operated a total of nine programs—five sessions of General Job Training for childcare teachers, one session of General Job Training for center directors, one session of Pre-Job Training for directors, and two sessions of Level 1 Promotion Training for childcare teachers—achieving high satisfaction.

In particular, this year the Project Group introduced weekday in-service training for childcare teachers for the first time in the province, receiving strong support. Previously, training took place on Friday evenings or Saturdays, which had repeatedly raised concerns about cumulative fatigue among teachers and declines in childcare quality. The JBNU Project Group worked with the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Childcare Comprehensive Support Center and others to establish a system that gives priority support for substitute teachers, and conducted training during five weekdays from June 23 to 27, significantly reducing teachers' workload.

Additionally, JBNU’s Glocal University 30 project also contributed to improving the quality of the training. The project enabled recruitment of high-quality instructors and support for tuition for employed staff, lowering training costs and allowing the introduction of a variety of new programs that had not previously been attempted.

Expanding regional accessibility is also noteworthy. Since last year, the JBNU Department of Child Studies has opened additional training using the Namwon City Childcare Comprehensive Support Center’s training facility for teachers in the southern area. This created an environment that makes it more convenient for teachers from Imsil, Sunchang, Jangsu, Namwon and other areas to participate in the training.

Professor Kim Tae-yeon, Project Group Director, said, “Strengthening the professionalism of childcare staff directly leads to improved quality of regional childcare. We will continue providing training with a sense of responsibility to help childcare in the Jeonbuk region grow further.”

Meanwhile, since JBNU's Department of Child Studies was selected in 2019 as the entrusted institution for Jeonbuk Province's in-service training program for childcare staff, it has played a central role in strengthening the capabilities of the region's childcare workforce.
