“From Research to Education, From Local to Global”
JBNU Department of Social Welfare BK21 Project Division (Director, Professor Jeong Gyu-hyeong) has achieved remarkable results by securing all three pillars of education, research, and global talent development.
All international students who received BK21 scholarships and graduated in the past five years have obtained positions at domestic and overseas universities and professional educational institutions, achieving the outstanding result of "100% entry into professional careers." Notably, 90% of the graduates were appointed as faculty members, and the remaining 10% were also employed in professional roles at educational institutions, demonstrating that social welfare researchers trained by JBNU are taking positions on university faculties around the world.
Director Jeong said, “The JBNU Department of Social Welfare BK21 Project Division was selected as an outstanding education and research division in the midterm evaluation and is recognized as having top-level research capabilities nationwide in the field of social welfare. JBNU's systematic research infrastructure and global collaborative network have led to these outcomes.”
The Department of Social Welfare’s graduate program demonstrates outstanding research capabilities by publishing more than 20 SSCI-indexed papers in leading international journals each year through collaborative research with prominent domestic and international scholars.
It has also expanded the practical application of education and research by jointly implementing various community-linked social welfare initiatives, such as the Jeonbuk Province Firefighters' Psychological Support Team, the Jeonbuk Center for Prevention and Treatment of Gambling Problems, the Jeonbuk Support Team for Regional Child Centers, and the operation of the Jeonju Family Center.
President Yang O-bong stated, “As a research-oriented university, Jeonbuk National University has been strengthening international student recruitment and research capabilities through the Glocal University Project. The Department of Social Welfare BK21 Project Division’s recent achievement is a representative example demonstrating the international competitiveness of graduate education.” He added, “We will continue to further strengthen support for education, research, and global networks so that international students can grow into social welfare professionals around the world based on the knowledge and experience they gained at JBNU.”
