The winners of the 25th Garam Lee Byeong‑gi Young Poetry Award and Choi Myung‑hee Young Novel Award, organized by the University Press & Broadcasting Service of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), were selected and an awards ceremony was held on November 7 at the President's Office, JBNU.

In the Garam Lee Byeong‑gi Young Poetry Award, university division, the honor went to Do Ha‑eun (third‑year student, Department of Creative Writing, Woosuk University) for "선". In the high school division, the award was presented to Song Yu‑bin (second‑year student, Daedeok Girls' High School) for "스팸 메시지". For the Choi Myung‑hee Young Novel Award, the university division winner was Lee Ye‑won (second‑year student, Department of Korean Language & Literature and Creative Writing, Dongguk University) for "무이가 말했다", and the high school division winner was Park Bit‑na (third‑year student, Guhyeon High School) for "시럽에 잠긴 체리". The winners received the JBNU President's Award and prize money.

The university division winning poem "선" was praised as an intellectual and original work that integrates phonological and formal characteristics with the human inner world. The high school division winning poem "스팸 메시지" was selected for its effective portrayal of how absurd a person's life can be and, paradoxically, how that life can represent a majestic realm of possibilities.

In the novel category, the university division winner "무이가 말했다" — which satirically treats the college admissions system as an "apple‑splitting" metaphor and questions whether students' inner lives can be quantified — was chosen for its solid structure and strong thematic drive. The high school division winner "시럽에 잠긴 체리", which expresses the modern individual's search for a lost self through the uncanny phenomenon of people melting into puddles, was judged an excellent work exploring human existence and society.

This year's awards, which increased the total prize fund from KRW 8,000,000 to KRW 11,000,000 compared to last year, drew intense competition with 235 entrants submitting 573 works. The Garam Lee Byeong‑gi Young Poetry Award was judged by Bok Hyo‑geun, Oh Chang‑ryeol, Moon Shin, and Lee Byeong‑cho. The Choi Myung‑hee Young Novel Award was judged by Choi Ki‑woo, Kim So‑yun, Jang Ma‑ri, and Hwang Bo‑yun.

President Yang O‑bong stated, “Celebrating its 25th year, this award has been a gateway for nurturing significant new voices in Korean literature. I hope and support the writers discovered and fostered under the names of poet Garam Lee Byeong‑gi and novelist Choi Myung‑hee — cultural assets of Jeonbuk National University — as they grow into internationally recognized authors.”

Meanwhile, this competition traces its origins to a "Student Works Contest" held in 1955 to commemorate the first anniversary of the founding of the JBNU newspaper.
