Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held the 'AI·Smart Manufacturing Convergence Global Forum Leading Advanced Defense Industry', hosted by the Contracted Enrollment Project Group, which is being carried out as part of the Glocal University 30 Project.
The forum was organized as a venue for industry–academia–research exchange aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and smart manufacturing technologies into the defense industry to enhance the competitiveness of the national defense and defense industries.
Hosted by JBNU and sponsored by Addaim Co., Ltd., the event drew more than 100 experts from industry and academia, including major research institutes such as the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), and Wayne State University (USA).
Moderated by Professor Si-hyung Ryu (Department of Mechanical Engineering, JBNU), the forum featured presentations including Dr. Hoon-hee Lee of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, who spoke on 'Establishing Foundations and Demonstration Cases for Intelligent Manufacturing of Aerospace Components', and Professor Kyoung-yun Joseph Kim of Wayne State University, who presented on 'Knowledge Systems in AI-driven Manufacturing'.
In addition, Dr. Chang-ju Kim of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials introduced 'Machine Tool Digital Twin and Autonomous Manufacturing'; Dr. Dong-gil Na of ETRI presented 'Development of an NPU-based AI Module for Multicopter Anomaly Detection'; and Hee-gwan Lee, CEO of Addaim Co., Ltd., presented 'Smart Manufacturing Solutions and Field Implementation Cases'.
Notably, Addaim Co., Ltd. is a company that possesses specialized technology for monitoring, analyzing and optimally controlling CNC equipment processing and equipment condition using OT/IoT real-time data. The company has expanded into overseas markets including Canada, Germany and Taiwan, as well as working with major domestic manufacturers such as LG Electronics, KG Mobility and DN Solution. At the forum, active discussion focused on scaling up demonstrations of Addaim's technology and strengthening industry–academia–research collaboration.
In the subsequent panel discussion on 'Strategies to Secure Technological Competitiveness in the Defense Industry through AI–Smart Manufacturing Convergence', the cooperation direction and demonstration strategies among industry, academia and research were discussed in depth.
Junsu Bae, Director of the Contracted Enrollment Project Group (JBNU), stated, 'Building on this forum, we will strengthen the AI–smart manufacturing ecosystem responsive to industry demand and actively expand opportunities for joint research and technology commercialization with regional defense companies.'
