The Institute for Northeast Asian Law (Director Prof. Song Mun-ho) and China’s Northwest Normal University (西北师范大学) held a Korea–China academic conference on advanced legal theory and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen scholarly exchange and cooperation in legal education between the two universities.
The conference, jointly organized by the Law School of Northwest Normal University and the Institute for Northeast Asian Law at JBNU, was attended by Wang Quanjin (王全金), Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Northwest Normal University, and Director Prof. Song Mun-ho of the Institute for Northeast Asian Law at JBNU, who delivered opening remarks. About 30 experts and graduate students from both universities participated.
At the symposium, a wide range of advanced legal topics were discussed, including: bankruptcy restructuring of energy-intensive and highly polluting firms under the Dual Carbon Goals and the social interest; data risks of artificial intelligence and legal regulatory approaches; legal governance of AI security; regulatory dilemmas of unfair data competition; the current status of virtual assets and related law in Korea; comparative legal frameworks for identifying AI-generated content in Korea and China; trends in online platform regulation; the civil status and liability of AI; and gender-based AI and artificial intimacy.
In his remarks, Vice President Wang Quanjin introduced Northwest Normal University’s distinctive research achievements in civil and commercial law and education law, and said, "I hope China and Korea will invigorate joint research and academic exchanges centered on rule-of-law cooperation in Northeast Asia and build a high-quality platform for legal exchange between the two countries."
Director Prof. Song Mun-ho said, "The Institute for Northeast Asian Law at JBNU has long led research in Northeast Asian legal studies and accumulated diverse research outcomes. This international academic seminar is a meaningful opportunity to further deepen academic exchange between the two countries." He added, "We look forward to both institutions continuing to create new momentum for promoting the rule of law in Northeast Asia and for international cooperation."
