The Korean Association of African Studies (KAAS), chaired by Professor Cho Hwa-rim of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), will hold the "2025 KAAS International Conference" on October 31 and November 1, 2025, at the JBNU International Convention Center.

This conference, in special cooperation with the Japan Association of African Studies (JAAS), will be held under the theme "Furthering Asian Reference of Africa Studies."

The event will feature 22 leading scholars in African studies from Korea and Japan as presenters. They will work to expand networks of African studies within Asia and explore possibilities for collaborative research.

In particular, special sessions will include a TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) session led by Japanese Africanists and a Korean–African Summit session involving Korean researchers.

In addition, a Citizen Session will be open to the public and researchers to discuss various international issues such as Africa's sustainable development, cultural exchange, and youth cooperation.

The conference is organized by the Korean Association of African Studies (KAAS) and co-sponsored by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), The Korea–Africa Foundation, and the Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation.

Professor Cho Hwa-rim, president of KAAS, said, "This Korea–Japan joint conference is a meaningful occasion that opens a new scholarly paradigm for viewing Africa from an Asian perspective." He added, "I hope that broad participation from domestic and international researchers and citizens will promote the international dissemination of African studies."
