Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s JUIC Triangle (university–industry–city co‑prosperity model), promoted through the Glocal University 30 Project, has entered a full-scale Industry–University Collaboration phase. JBNU signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI; Director Bae Jeong-cheol) at 11:00 a.m. on October 28 in the President's Office on the 4th floor of the University Headquarters to establish an innovation ecosystem for future strategic industries based on Saemangeum.
The agreement is expected to strengthen the core industrial axis of the "JUIC@Saemangeum Cluster" pursued by JBNU and to serve as an important stepping stone for transforming the regional industrial structure into an advanced manufacturing innovation system based on green hydrogen energy, the defense industry, and AX (AI Transformation).
Under the agreement, the two institutions will establish a joint research and demonstration infrastructure using the JBNU Saemangeum Frontier Campus site and will expand research infrastructure and technology exchange in the fields of green hydrogen energy, the defense industry, and AX.
They also agreed to establish a multifaceted cooperation system, including operating joint programs to train specialized personnel in advanced industrial technologies and creating a joint campus for government, industry, academia and research institutes to revitalize the industrial ecosystem.
On the same day, KOMERI donated KRW 10 million to support JBNU's development.
President Yang O-bong said, "This agreement is an important milestone indicating that JBNU's JUIC Triangle strategy, which the university has been actively pursuing for regional co‑prosperity, has begun to be realized concretely in industrial practice," adding, "We will establish an industry–university innovation model in which the university, companies and research institutes jointly lead innovative growth."
