Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Regional Digital Media Center (Director: Professor Choi Yong-jun) will hold the '2025 Social Participation Video Contest for Students' in cooperation with the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education. The event aims to strengthen media literacy among local elementary, middle, and high school students and to promote the proper use of generative AI tools in an era when digital technology has made the consumption of numerous types of content part of everyday life.
Held under the theme 'A Frame of the World We Create with Our Own Hands', the contest is open to anyone with a video of 30 seconds or longer. Videos using AI tools are permitted. Creative works will be accepted without genre restrictions, including documentaries, vlogs, and animations.
It is expected to provide an opportunity to reflect on both creative and ethical uses of rapidly spreading generative artificial intelligence tools.
The contest broadens access so that not only elementary, middle, and high school students in the province but also out-of-school youth for various reasons may participate. The organizers hope youths across the region will have the opportunity to learn how to use media responsibly and to express their world beyond the confines of school.
Entries must be submitted by 6:00 p.m. on November 17 (Monday). Applicants should submit the application form and the video to the JBNU Regional Digital Media Center (jbdmc04@gmail.com). For details, see the contest poster QR code or contact the center by email or by phone at 063-270-2808.
Judging will be based on completeness, artistic quality, and originality. A total of 28 works will be selected for awards. Prize amounts are KRW 300,000 for the Grand Prize (1 work), KRW 200,000 for Excellence Awards (2 works), KRW 100,000 for Encouragement Awards (5 works), and KRW 50,000 for Consolation Awards (10 works). The Grand Prize and the two Excellence Awards (three works) will receive awards from the Superintendent of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education. Winners will be notified individually in November.
Professor Choi Yong-jun, director of the Regional Digital Media Center, said, 'Through this video contest, I hope it will become a platform where participants move beyond merely consuming media, view the world they live in from new perspectives, and strengthen their media literacy by creating and sharing media outputs.'
