The Woodworking Support Center, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (Director: Professor Oh Seung-won), which conducts annual outreach woodcraft experiences for local residents and has received strong responses, once again visited various areas this year to provide woodcraft experience opportunities.
The Woodworking Support Center, with support from the National University Development Project, operated traveling woodcraft workshops for local residents and local daycare centers.
From September 2 to the present, the Center visited ten daycare centers (kindergartens) in Jeonju, Gunsan, Namwon, Jangsu, Muju, Sunchang and other locations, conducting mood-light making activities using hinoki wood for a total of 212 participants.
Participating children, with the help of instructors, had the opportunity to become familiar with wood through activities such as painting wooden panels, gluing wood with wood glue, and sanding wood surfaces.
Also, beginning in October the Center will operate three family-oriented wood furniture-making workshops (October 25 / November 8 / November 22) to further increase local residents' satisfaction and to widely promote the image of the Jimmy Carter School of International Studies at JBNU.
Director Oh Seung-won of the Woodworking Support Center said, "We hold this annual outreach program to share the university's excellent infrastructure and capabilities with local residents so they can become familiar with our traditional woodworking culture," and added, "We plan to operate a variety of programs so we can communicate with more local residents through experiences of traditional woodworking."
