Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Professor Cheol-Gyu Song (College of Engineering, Division of Electronic Engineering) was elected as the inaugural chair of the Industrial Security Technology Research Association, which will lead industrial security research in 12 national strategic industries, including advanced biotechnology, the university announced on the 15th. His term is three years.

The Industrial Security Technology Research Association recently held its founding ceremony and inaugural seminar and has officially launched. It will begin full-scale efforts to strengthen the security of the nation's core industries and enhance global competitiveness.

The newly launched Industrial Security Technology Research Association is a consultative body that includes industry, academia, and research institutes nationwide, national intelligence agencies, and affiliated organizations. The association will establish security strategies across the full lifecycle—from research and development (R&D) through commercialization to global market entry—for advanced convergent industries such as bio and agri-life, and plans to gradually expand its industrial security-related scope.

The founding seminar featured presentations by leading domestic experts in industrial and technology security, including Woo-young Jeong, Secretary-General of the Korea Science and Technology Policy Research Association; Han-gon Woo, Executive Vice-Chair of the Korea Digital Forensics Industry Technology Association; Professor Yun-seok Ji of Chung-Ang University; and Professor Won-seon Kang of Myongji University.

At the event, practitioners shared field experience in industrial security, and a range of topics such as digital forensics and cybersecurity were discussed. Active discussions were also held on collaborative research and cooperation strategies.

Inaugural Chair Cheol-Gyu Song said, "The association will focus on developing new security technologies and training specialized personnel through regular expert seminars and workshops." He added, "By expanding models of cooperation among industry, academia, research institutes, and government, we will strengthen practical technology protection and policy response capabilities for companies, universities, and research institutions, and contribute to establishing global standards by sharing international industrial security trends and cases."
