Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Biomaterials & Mechanobiology Laboratory alumnus Dr. Arathyram Ramachandra Kurup Sasikala (hereinafter Arathyram) has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom.

Arathyram has also been selected for the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowship project and will receive research funding of £2.2 million over four years (approximately KRW 4.18 billion).

Arathyram conducted mechanobiology-convergence research while affiliated with JBNU's Biomaterials & Mechanobiology Laboratory, working on piezoelectric nanoparticles targeting the brain and self-powered stents, and published several research findings in leading international journals.

This research aims to advance previous work to develop an innovative technology that generates power solely from body movement. The goal is to use that power not only to treat fractured bones but also to supply energy to cardiac pacemakers.

The technology is evaluated as capable of generating electricity from natural bodily or muscle movements without external power supply devices, thereby reducing the need for invasive surgical procedures and lowering carbon emissions because external power sources are not required.

Arathyram said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the university officials who supported me in completing my PhD at JBNU. I hope that active exchanges between the University of Bradford and JBNU will promote vigorous multidisciplinary international collaborative research. I will strive to contribute to JBNU's efforts to enter the 'Global Top 100'."
