PhD candidate Kim Jong-ryun (Department of Animal Science, supervised by Professor Kwan-Seop Shim) has been selected for the 2025 Support Program for Next-Generation Scholars in Science and Engineering, funded by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation (NRF). Accordingly, Kim will receive research funding of KRW 25 million per year for two years to conduct his research.
The Support Program for Next-Generation Scholars in Science and Engineering enables doctoral candidates to lead creative and challenging research. The Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation (NRF) provide research grants for the program.
Kim will conduct research under the title "Study on Cryopreservation of Eimeria Oocysts and Cell Culture–Based Production Technology for a Live Vaccine Against Chicken Coccidiosis."
This research aims to establish conditions for the long-term preservation of oocysts of Eimeria spp., the causative agents of chicken coccidiosis, and to use these conditions to establish an intestinal epithelial cell–based in vitro large-scale production system.
PhD candidate Kim expressed his gratitude to his supervisor, Professor Kwan-Seop Shim, and the members of the Molecular Biology Laboratory for their unwavering support, saying, "I sincerely thank Professor Kwan-Seop Shim and all members of the Molecular Biology Laboratory for their generous support, which enabled me to gain diverse research experiences leading to this selection." He added, "Through this project I will devote myself to my doctoral dissertation research, build a solid foundation in the field, and grow into a next-generation scholar who will lead global research."
