Hyunseung Kim, a PhD candidate in the Department of Energy StorageㆍConversion Engineering and a member of Professor Jung Chang-gyu's research team (Division of Advanced Materials Engineering (Electronic Materials Engineering)) at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), received the Poster Presentation Excellence Award at the 2024 Spring Conference of the Korean Ceramic Society for outstanding research on composite materials using piezoelectric ceramic particles and polymers.

At the conference, Kim presented a microstructured material that mimics octopus suction cups and the setae of water striders by using a composite of piezoelectric ceramic particles mixed with polymers. The work was praised for demonstrating a sensor that, when adhered closely to the human body, can be used to control robotic movement based on this composite material.

Working with Professor Jung Chang-gyu on piezoelectric materials and devices as well as magnetic composite materials, Kim has won eight presentation awards as the lead author at academic conferences within three years of his doctoral studies. 

Kim has received awards not only from the Korean Ceramic Society but also from the Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Materials, the Korean Society of Sensors, the MCARE international conference, and the ICAE international conference. Including coauthored works, the total reaches 15 awards. At the end of last year, he also delivered an oral presentation at the Asia Ferroelectrics Conference held in Macau in front of numerous international researchers.

Hyunseung Kim said, "I am very proud that not only I but also several students in our laboratory have achieved excellent results, winning some 20 awards over the past four years for presenting outstanding research at various conferences. I believe this is thanks to our adviser, who has taught us not only how to produce high-quality research results but also how to communicate the significance of that research to others."
