Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (President Yang O-bong) is promoting a KRW 7.7 billion development fund campaign to mark its 77th anniversary this year. JBNU's College of Dentistry (Dean Yu Mi-kyung) has decided to establish and operate a fund to support systematic and sustainable development fundraising.
Accordingly, the College of Dentistry recently established the 'J-dental Fund' for development fundraising and announced plans to use the funds raised through it as a designated fund for the College of Dentistry.
The 'J-dental Fund' was initiated through the united efforts of the dental faculty. The project aims for the College of Dentistry to take the lead in raising funds commensurate with the university's rising external standing, exemplified by selection for the Glocal University 30 project.
Accordingly, the College will strive to secure donations from alumni and companies related to its academic fields. The development funds thus collected will be donated as a designated fund for the College of Dentistry and used to expand student scholarships, improve the educational environment, and otherwise support the cultivation of outstanding talent.
Since Dean Yu Mi-kyung took office in January, the College of Dentistry has raised roughly KRW 200 million in development funds in a short period. Dean Yu herself has also contributed KRW 10 million, actively participating in fundraising.
Dean Yu Mi-kyung said, "With JBNU promoting a KRW 7.7 billion development fund campaign at the university level for its 77th anniversary this year, the College of Dentistry has decided to take the lead in joining these efforts. I hope that faculty and alumni will unite so that the College can develop into an institution worthy of a global Top 100 ranking, and that students can grow into outstanding talent who lead regional and national development in a better environment."
Meanwhile, JBNU's College of Dentistry is the only dental college in the country to fully implement a student-centered Problem-Based Learning (PBL) education system, playing a leading role in dental education.
As a result of establishing creative educational programs—such as one-on-one personalized practical training, PBCL (Problem-Based Collaborative Learning), a variety of exchange and academic activities, and community service—the College received the highest rating, a 6-year accreditation (March 2021–February 2027), in the dental education accreditation evaluation conducted by the Korean Dental Education Evaluation, the first such recognition in the country.
