The Department of Urban Engineering (Department Chair Professor Jang Tae-yeon) announced on the 29th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the LX Spatial Information Research Institute (Director Gwak Hee-do) to support the development of one million digital talents.

On the 26th, the two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding at the LX Spatial Information Research Institute in Wanju County. The signing was attended by Professor Jang Tae-yeon, Chair of the Department of Urban Engineering, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), Director Gwak Hee-do of the LX Spatial Information Research Institute, and other key officials from both institutions.

The JBNU Department of Urban Engineering was selected in 2022 for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Spatial Information Innovative Talent Development Project (Director: Professor Hwang Ji-wook, Department of Urban Engineering). The department has since worked to cultivate innovative talent for the spatial information industry, including by establishing and operating a Spatial Information–AI linked major.

Through this agreement, the two institutions agreed to jointly utilize their resources and collaborate on initiatives promoted by the government to train one million digital talents, including collaborative research for the future national land and cities based on spatial information and the development of outstanding professionals.

Specifically, they plan to jointly support the '2024 Capstone Design Program' to be held this year and the 'Spatial Information Idea Competition' scheduled for June.

Professor Jang Tae-yeon, the Department Chair, said, 'We will work with the LX Spatial Information Research Institute to provide practical educational opportunities in order to cultivate talent that can contribute to regional development.'

Professor Hwang Ji-wook, Director of the Spatial Information Innovative Talent Development Project, said, 'With a sense of mission to lead the future-oriented field of spatial information, we will do our best to nurture interdisciplinary talent who can contribute to the advancement of the spatial information field in various ways.'
