Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Central Library Foreign Journal Support Center (Director Song Ki‑chun) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the municipal libraries of Jeollabuk Special Self‑Governing Province — Jeonju City Library (Head Lee Gang‑jun), Gunsan City Library (Director Hwang Eun‑mi), Iksan City Mohyeon Public Library (Director Go Min‑cheol), and Iksan City Yeongdeung Public Library (Director Park Cheol‑sun) — to enable use of full‑text foreign scholarly articles and joint use of knowledge and information resources.
Under this agreement, any member of the four municipal libraries in Jeollabuk Special Self‑Governing Province who is interested in scholarly research can conveniently access JBNU Central Library's Foreign Journal Support Center's "Free Full‑Text Copy Service for Foreign Scholarly Articles" in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, and veterinary science via each municipal library's website.
The "Free Full‑Text Copy Service for Foreign Scholarly Articles" allows users to request full‑text copies of foreign scholarly articles held by the center. The center will print the requested articles and provide copying and postage to the designated delivery address free of charge.
Director Song Ki‑chun stated, "This agreement establishes a collaborative system that overcomes institutional barriers between the Glocal JBNU Central Library Foreign Journal Support Center and major municipal libraries within Jeollabuk Special Self‑Governing Province." He added, "We hope this will create measurable outcomes for the center's operations and provide an opportunity to enhance the research competitiveness of Jeollabuk Special Self‑Governing Province as the nation's agro‑life hub."
The Foreign Journal Support Center was established in 2006 under the oversight of the Ministry of Education and the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) to eliminate duplicate institutional subscriptions to foreign journals and to enable strategic shared use of foreign scholarly information. JBNU was selected in 2009 and has built foreign scholarly information resources covering 875 foreign journals (2.07 million articles) in the fields of agriculture, animal science, veterinary science, food science, and fisheries and marine science.
