JBNU will begin collaborative research with Canada’s Laval University, which is leading global food security research, to address global food shortages.

To this end, on the 4th, officials from Laval University visited JBNU's Office of International Affairs to hold in-depth discussions on launching the collaborative research, and the two universities agreed to cooperate to address food issues in developing countries.

Dr. Marlen Leon-Guzman of Laval University, who visited that day, expressed pleasure at conducting research with JBNU, which has demonstrated outstanding achievements in agricultural and livestock development cooperation and climate change research. He expressed particular sympathy and interest in the comprehensive, cross-disciplinary approach to food shortages—encompassing the natural sciences and social sciences—proposed by Professor Lee Hak-gyo of the Department of Agricultural Convergence Technology.

Based on the discussions that day, the two institutions plan to begin JBNU-Laval University research collaboration using their excellent technologies and networks and to expand it into multilateral research including the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Since launching the Glocal University 30 project, JBNU has been actively advancing efforts to develop glocal talent. The joint research and student exchange program with the North American university are part of these efforts.

JBNU plans to actively pursue research on local communities' food distribution systems in the joint research with Laval University, and this cooperation is expected to make a significant contribution to mutually beneficial regional development.

President Yang Oh-bong said, "It is not only our moral duty but also an honor that our country, which once received food aid, now strives to resolve global food shortages," adding, "In this process, JBNU's initiation of joint research with a prestigious North American university demonstrates that JBNU is not only global but also a genuinely glocal university rooted in its region."
