Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), led by President Yang O-bong, signed an official agreement online on the 4th to promote sustainable cultural exchange with Quy Nhon City, Vietnam. The agreement aims to raise awareness of Korean culture and JBNU's excellence among Vietnamese students and to create a virtuous cycle in which sustainable cultural exchange leads to the recruitment of international students.
JBNU officials from the Student Affairs Office, including Deputy Head No Won-yeop, visited Quy Nhon City twice last year to exchange views on cultural exchange. In January this year, a cultural exchange delegation composed of the JBNU Student Club Association and student ambassadors held various cultural events with local students and citizens in Quy Nhon, further strengthening the cooperative relationship between JBNU and the city.
Under the agreement, JBNU will dispatch a more developed 'International Competency Activity Team' to Quy Nhon City to engage closely in cultural exchange and international student recruitment activities. JBNU also agreed to broaden the scope of cooperation with universities located in Quy Nhon.
Kim Jong-seok, Director of Student Affairs, said, "This agreement with Quy Nhon City is significant as the first case of a national university signing an MOU with a single local government. We will further consolidate the collaborative system with Quy Nhon City and develop more programs to enhance students' international competencies and pursue innovative activities."
President Yang O-bong said, "We are pleased to formalize an agreement with Quy Nhon City, with which we have had close exchanges. By promoting JBNU's excellence to Vietnamese students through sustained cultural exchange and linking that to international student recruitment, it will provide major momentum toward our university's goal of recruiting 5,000 international students."
