Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (President Yang O-bong) Professor Shin Chung-gyun of the Department of Japanese Studies donated 10 million won to the university's development fund to support efforts to enhance its competitiveness.

Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation presented a plaque of appreciation to Professor Shin Chung-gyun at 10:30 a.m. on March 29 in the President's Office, University Headquarters, with President Yang O-bong and senior university officials in attendance.

Professor Shin decided to donate in order to put into practice his long-standing wish to contribute to the proper development of students in the Department of Japanese Studies and to JBNU's advancement.

Professor Shin, a member of the first graduating class of the Department of Japanese Studies, has held university administrative positions such as Dean of the College of Humanities. To give back to his alma mater in any small way, he has set aside part of his allowances over some 20 years of service to establish funds such as student scholarships. His ongoing donations for university development have reached 30 million won.

Professor Shin stated, "The humanities, which are increasingly constrained, also suffer from insufficient financial support both inside and outside the university. Although this is not a large amount, I hope it will be used beneficially for the Department of Japanese Studies' education and academic events."

Professor Shin's development fund has been designated as a fund for enhancing JBNU's competitiveness and will be used to improve the educational environment for Department of Japanese Studies students and to support research and academic events.
