Jeonbuk National University (JBNU, President Yang O-bong) announced on the 26th that it will form and operate an expert consulting panel to ensure the firm implementation of the Glocal University 30 Project's 'Core Innovation Tasks' and to refine the project's implementation plan.

The core innovation tasks of JBNU's Glocal University 30 Project are establishing a university–research institution innovative convergence joint campus and attracting international students.

The expert consulting panel, composed of 11 experts in regional policy, industry, education, R&D commercialization, and matters related to international students, will, until June, concretely refine the JBNU Glocal University Project implementation plan so that it can produce visible outcomes, and will present models of the core innovation tasks that other universities can benchmark.

It will also closely review the project contents of the ten priority initiatives aimed at regional, industry–university collaboration, educational, and global innovation, and offer a range of recommendations.

JBNU has decided that its representative core innovation tasks will be 'establishing a core convergence joint campus with research institutions' and 'attracting international students,' and plans to pursue the project with strategies that differentiate it from other universities.

First, through the 'establishment of a university–research institution core convergence joint campus,' JBNU will implement a faculty-sharing system with regional research institutes such as KIST and the Korea Food Research Institute, develop and operate joint curriculum programs, conduct industry–university–research convergence research and human resource development based on regional company needs, and pursue Technology Transfer and commercialization of research outcomes to contribute to strengthening the industrial competitiveness of regional companies and training specialized personnel.

Also, the 'attraction of international students' aims primarily to enhance the university's internationalization capacity and secure a resident population to respond to regional decline by recruiting 5,000 international students by 2028, introducing field training and internship programs with local industries for outstanding international students, and expanding operation of residence halls dedicated to international students and their families.

Baek Gi-tae, Director of the JBNU Glocal University Development Project Group, said, "This consulting panel plays a very important role in setting a specific and systematic direction for the successful promotion of the Glocal University Project," and added, "We will actively reflect the panel's recommendations in the implementation plan and do our best to carry out the project and contribute to regional development through project outcomes."
