Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), led by President Yang O-bong, held a joint AI conference with France's Sorbonne Nouvelle University on the theme 'Humanistic Challenges and Responses to AI Research.' The two institutions had pledged close cooperation last year.

The conference, held on the 21st at the JBNU New Silk Road Center's Donghaeng Hall, was attended by President Yang O-bong; Francoise Lavocat, Vice-President for External Affairs of Sorbonne Nouvelle University; Roana Gayerong, Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Student Life; Alberto Hommel, Professor of Communication and Media; and others.

The conference featured in-depth presentations and discussions on how the advancement of AI could affect societal ethics, education, and research.

In addition, the two universities held in-depth discussions on plans to initiate student exchanges starting in the next semester. They agreed to pursue continued, active collaboration across various areas, including organizing additional joint conferences and developing online English lectures by Sorbonne Nouvelle faculty for JBNU students and international students.

President Yang O-bong stated, 'This joint AI conference has further raised JBNU's standing as a research-oriented university and has provided a foundation for attracting international students.' He added, 'We will accelerate efforts to strengthen cooperation with overseas universities across academic fields.'

JBNU renewed its academic exchange agreement (MOU) with Sorbonne Nouvelle University in June last year, and signed a student exchange agreement (MOA) on February 1, 2024.
