The internationally renowned film 'The Sound of Music' will be staged as a German-language musical performed by Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of German Education and Department of German Studies students. The performance will take place on March 25 at 6:00 PM in Jinsudang Paolo Hall at JBNU and will be free of charge.

Since last year, the musical has been planned and produced entirely by JBNU Department of German Education and Department of German Studies students so that they may immerse themselves in German culture, spirit, and language. The students have prepared the entire process, from planning to staging and acting.

Under the guidance of soprano Kim Jeong-eun, who is enrolled in the Department of German Studies, the students have been rehearsing intensively since last summer break. In addition to the students' efforts, the scholarship fund of Professor Kim Jeong-ok (Yeongsan), who donated KRW 2 billion in 2019 to enhance students' educational competitiveness, has provided significant support to the students.

The performance will be a German-language musical with narration in Korean. Audiences will be able to hear twelve beloved songs familiar from the film 'The Sound of Music,' including 'Do‑Re‑Mi' and 'Edelweiss.'

It will offer a unique opportunity to hear familiar music in German and is expected to provide an occasion for students to demonstrate the language skills they have acquired.

Students Kim Ye-rim and Kim Mi-jin (Department of German Education), who participated again this year, said, "We are very pleased that the German-language musical we prepared together last year will be staged again," and added, "We applaud Professor Kim Jeong-eun for her passionate guidance and our fellow students for their enthusiasm and hard work in creating another wonderful production."

Lee Seul-gi, a student in the Department of German Studies who prepared this performance, said, "I am pleased that many students who gathered since last summer break, balancing rehearsals with their studies, can present the show they have practiced in their spare time," and added, "We hope many people will attend our performance to further highlight the efforts our students have made."
