Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Industry-University Cooperation, which operates the Jeonbuk Western Cultural Heritage Care Center (Director Nam Haegyeong) on a consignment basis, announced on the 19th that the center recently held capacity-building training for cultural heritage care workers at the Jeonbuk Western Cultural Heritage Care Center training hall to strengthen expertise in cultural property repair and to support obtaining cultural heritage repair technician certification.
The care workers participated in training in plastering, beonwa, landscaping and other skills needed for minor repairs while caring for local cultural heritage based on the principles of preserving original form and minimizing intervention. Workers who had already obtained the certificate served as mentors and actively supported their colleagues' training.
Hong Uiseong, Team Leader of the Minor Repair Team, said, "Once cultural properties are damaged, restoration is difficult. Therefore, a high degree of expertise is required, and everyone participated in the training with earnest dedication."
Director Nam Haegyeong said, "We are committed to the daily management of and damage prevention for cultural properties in the province. We will provide regular professional training and practical exercises to cultivate more specialists."
In fact, the Jeonbuk Western Cultural Heritage Care Center has consistently produced cultural heritage repair technicians across various fields each year and has recently produced the highest number of successful candidates nationwide.
Meanwhile, the cultural heritage care project is a Lottery Fund–supported program operated with the aim of preventing damage to cultural properties in advance through monitoring, minor repairs, and routine management. As of 2024, the Jeonbuk Western Cultural Heritage Care Center manages 383 cultural properties in six cities and counties of Jeollabuk-do (Gunsan, Iksan, Jeongeup, Gimje, Gochang, Buan).
