Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) student Jina Choi (integrated B.S./M.S. completion student, Department of Electrical Engineering) recently received the Best Presentation Award at the IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) 2024 held in Long Beach, California, USA.

IEEE APEC is the largest international conference in the field of power electronics. Hundreds of papers on power converters and motor control were presented, and a large-scale exhibition provided industry and academic experts with opportunities to learn about the latest technologies and industry trends and to network.

Choi is conducting international collaborative research with Michigan State University in Professor Jae-Seok Lee's laboratory. Through a presentation titled 'Broken Rotor Bar Detection in AC Induction Motors using Cascaded Flux-Current State Observer,' which reports an algorithm for detecting rotor bar faults in induction motors, her work was recognized at the conference as the outcome of international collaborative research.

Choi said, "Thanks to my advisor's careful guidance and the support that allowed me to focus on my research, I was able to achieve this result, and it was an opportunity to grow as a researcher. I will continue to devote myself to follow-up studies and grow as a researcher who can contribute to industry."

Meanwhile, Professor Jae-Seok Lee's research team in the Department of Electrical Engineering is conducting research on the design and development of motor control systems and power converters applicable to future mobility and renewable energy.
