Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Professor Im Gyeong-taek (Department of Archaeology & Anthropology, College of Humanities) was inaugurated as the 18th President of the Korean Association of Family Studies. His term is one year, through December of this year.
Founded in 1977, the Korean Association of Family Studies is a leading domestic academic society in the related fields that conducts scientific research on Korean families with the aim of promoting individuals' healthy growth and the progressive development of society.
As a multidisciplinary society spanning sociology, anthropology, history, law, and philosophy to psychology, social welfare, human ecology, and psychiatry, it has promoted family research and the development of a healthy family culture through scholarly research on family-related issues and intellectual exchange among its members.
In his inaugural address, Professor Im said, "We will carefully consider the realities that families face in contemporary society, and by sharing issues in both research and education, propose more progressive directions." He added, "In particular, this year I will create many opportunities to hear the voices of those working in the field alongside academic research related to families, and establish forums where researchers and practitioners can participate together."
Meanwhile, Professor Im served as President of the Korean Society of Cultural Anthropology and as Chair of the Organizing Committee of the East Asian Publishers' Association. He currently serves as Director of the JBNU University Press and as Director of the BK21 Project Division's Education and Research Team in the Department of Archaeology & Anthropology at JBNU.
