Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Korean Language & Literature (Head of Department, Professor Eom Suk-hee) and the Goh-ha Choi Seung-beom Literary Memorial Association (Chair, Professor Yang Byung-ho) jointly published the anthology Youth (Time's Spindle), which compiles the winning works of this year’s inaugural Goh-ha Choi Seung-beom Literary Award competition.
On January 13, the Department of Korean Language & Literature and the Goh-ha Choi Seung-beom Literary Memorial Association held a student-targeted competition to commemorate the first anniversary of Goh-ha Choi Seung-beom, an honorary professor of JBNU's Department of Korean Language & Literature who proudly identified himself as a "Jeollado writer," and to honor his literary and academic achievements.
The published anthology includes 32 works by emerging writers who won the first, second, and third prizes in the competition: 13 poems, 9 short stories, 9 essays, and 1 screenplay. At the end of each section, the judges' evaluations are recorded.
The winning works feature poems that embody "pain," novels that reinterpret the gumiho folktale in a contemporary way, and essays addressing social perspectives on "tic disorder," among other pieces that portray university students' experiences through literature.
Professor Jeong Sun-hee (Department of Korean Language & Literature), in the preface, wrote, "Here are gathered the unpolished youths of JBNU's Department of Korean Language & Literature," and stated that the department's "literary current will gather into a larger stream and continue to flow."
