The Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) University Museum (Director, Professor Eom Hyeok-yong), which has received strong support from local residents for its annual free film series Thursday Cinema Muse, will launch the program again this year on March 7.

Now in its 13th year thanks to continued support and affection, this year the program will welcome local residents with monthly themes designed to enhance their emotional capacities.

In March, to commemorate the launch of Jeollabuk-do as a special self-governing province, films set in Jeollabuk will be screened. April will feature films related to politics; May will focus on films of consolation and healing; June will present classic films; and July will screen films about humanity’s exploration of space in celebration of the 55th anniversary of the lunar landing.

In August, films addressing loneliness and communication will be shown; September will feature Academy Award–winning screenplays that are more moving than literature; October will present Korean independent films; November will screen films that embrace the humanities and diversity; and in December the program will engage the local community with classic masterpieces and other diverse themes.

JBNU University Museum Director Professor Eom Hyeok-yong said, “Alongside JBNU’s initiatives leading regional development, such as the launch of Jeollabuk-do as a special self-governing province and the implementation of the Glocal University 30 project, the museum will make further efforts to take the lead in responding to local cultural demand and strengthening cultural capacities.”

Meanwhile, the Thursday Cinema Muse series will open on March 7 at 2:00 PM in the museum auditorium, and it will be available free of charge every Thursday at 2:00 PM in the museum auditorium through December.
