Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), led by President Yang O-bong, announced that it will share the university's outstanding infrastructure with universities in the Jeonbuk region to promote mutual development. To put this into practice, JBNU has begun to engage in detailed agreements with regional universities.
The JBNU Office of Student Affairs (Director Kim Jong-seok) announced on the 23rd that it signed a "Detailed Agreement on the Opening and Joint Use of JBNU Equipment and Facilities for Students of Regional Universities to Foster Glocal Universities" with the Office of Student Affairs at Gunsan University (Director Eom Gi-uk) on the 21st.
This development follows last year’s cooperation agreement between Jeollabuk-do and ten universities in the Jeonbuk region to jointly respond to the Glocal University 30 project, after which detailed inter-university agreements on campus openings have been accelerated.
JBNU plans, beginning with the detailed agreement with Gunsan University, to sign further agreements to open JBNU’s outstanding infrastructure with Wonkwang University on the 27th and with other universities in the Jeonbuk region thereafter.
Under the agreement, JBNU will allow undergraduate and graduate students from Gunsan University to borrow books, e-books and other materials from the Central Library. JBNU will also open academic research support services, such as thesis-writing assistance and academic lectures. In addition, the university plans to open facilities for participation in cultural programs organized by the Central Library, including performances and exhibitions, and to provide spaces for study and research activities.
A consultative body will be formed among student self-governance organizations, including the JBNU Student Council and the JBNU Student Club Association, to support exchange activities. Administrative cooperation will also take place between student support administrative departments to facilitate the opening of equipment and facilities.
Kim Jong-seok, Director of the JBNU Office of Student Affairs, said, "JBNU will share KRW 50 billion of the Glocal University 30 project budget with regional universities and open the university's outstanding infrastructure to regional universities to seek ways for both the region and regional universities to achieve mutual development. We will work closely to completely remove the barriers that have accumulated between regional universities so that any student from a regional university can use JBNU's facilities and infrastructure."
