Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) master's student Gwak Dong-gyu (Department of Bionanotechnology and Bio-Convergence Engineering, supervisor Professor Lee Jae-woo) has been selected as a Toray Advanced Materials R&D Industry–University Scholarship recipient.
The Toray Advanced Materials R&D Industry–University Scholarship is a program in which Toray Advanced Materials, a leading domestic materials company and a subsidiary of the Japanese Toray Group, covers students' full tuition and living expenses during their master's degree programs and hires them after graduation.
Unlike industry–university scholarship programs offered by other domestic major companies, Toray Advanced Materials selected only two recipients nationwide for this scholarship, making this selection especially significant.
Gwak, who is conducting research on the development of bipolar membranes for water electrolysis for hydrogen production under the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Future Hydrogen Source Technology Development Project', will receive full tuition, living expenses, and other support from Toray Advanced Materials for the remainder of his master's program and is scheduled to join Toray Advanced Materials after graduation.
Gwak said, 'I am grateful to my supervisor, Professor Lee Jae-woo, for guiding and supporting me so I can focus on my research and achieve good results, and to my laboratory colleagues who have helped me. During my studies, I will continue to devote myself to research to produce strong results and to grow as an outstanding researcher.'
