"Freshmen, you are the spring."
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), led by President Yang O-bong, held the 2024 academic year entrance ceremony and orientation for incoming students on February 14, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Jeonju Indoor Gymnasium to celebrate and welcome students beginning their university life.
As a pre-ceremony event, a traditional marching band paraded across the campus to welcome the new students. A procession of President Yang O-bong and university headquarters officers followed, enhancing the ceremony's atmosphere.
At the main ceremony, with President Yang O-bong, university headquarters officers, incoming students, and parents in attendance, President Yang declared admission for 5,235 individuals: 4,121 in undergraduate programs, 853 in master's programs, and 261 in doctoral programs.
In the second part, an orientation introducing all aspects of university life was held. Beginning with student club performances, the orientation provided guidance on matters essential to university life—such as course registration, scholarship systems, employment support, and the Reserved Officers' Training Corps—and offered useful information for freshmen, including details about the student council.
Additionally, each college and department conducted campus tours and quiz sessions, during which small commemorative gifts were given to the freshmen, filling the JBNU campus with smiles throughout the day.
In particular, the JBNU Division of Student Support provided conveniences such as live streaming the entire proceedings on JBNU's official YouTube channel for students unable to attend the entrance ceremony and orientation.
In his welcome address, President Yang O-bong said, "I hope that guidance on the university's educational goals and main policies will help new students adapt to university life at an early stage," and urged them, "Value yourself, cultivate the spirit to challenge your goals, and take pride in being members of JBNU."
President Yang added, "Through the promotion of the Glocal University 30 project, JBNU will further diversify students' choices of majors and emerge as a global flagship university that leads mutually beneficial regional development," and he added, "I am confident that these changes will greatly support your meaningful university life, and the university will always be with you in the challenges and growth that lie ahead."
