Amid a significant increase in threats to crop production due to climate change and expanding international trade, the '2024 11th Annual Meeting and Research Results Presentation of the Pest Control Research Association' was held on the 1st at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU).

The event was jointly organized by JBNU (President Yang Oh-bong)'s Graduate School of Plant Quarantine, which trains specialist personnel in pest and disease management and quarantine, and the Plant Pathology Research Center.

The Pest Control Research Association (President Moon Chang-seop) has held an annual academic conference to exchange the latest information on research into crop protection agents.

In a special lecture titled 'Trends in Forest Pest Occurrence,' Dr. Han Hye-rim of the National Institute of Forest Science explained that the occurrence patterns of pine wood nematode and other tree pests are changing in response to climate change.

Dr. Hong Tae-gyun of the Basic Standards Research Institute at KGC Ginseng Corporation introduced the major types of pests affecting ginseng and discussed improvements to registration test methods.

Professor Park Min-gu of JBNU's Department of Bioenvironmental Chemistry, in his presentation 'Development of Quarantine Disinfection Technology,' emphasized the need to develop fumigation disinfectants for plant quarantine and called for convergence research to facilitate their application to pest control in domestic field conditions.

Choo Byung-gil, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Director of JBNU's Graduate School of Plant Quarantine, said, 'I hope that the synergy generated through the exchange of Research Outcomes between researchers in the field of pest control and professional companies will further advance the development of domestic pest control agents.' He added, 'The Graduate School of Plant Quarantine at JBNU will also actively support exchanges and cooperation to produce excellent outcomes in the fields of pest quarantine and management.'
