Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), which was selected as the lead institution, launched the University Remote Education Support Center project. The project is a government initiative implemented to reduce disparities in remote education among universities and to promote the digital transformation of higher education.
The Jeonbuk Regional Remote Education Support Center (Center Director Professor Kim Hyun-kyung), which has overseen the project, achieved various outcomes over four years of operation. Sixteen universities exchanged credits, and more than 10,000 Jeonbuk-area students participated in 80 courses.
Participants included 16 universities in the Jeonbuk region: Gunsan University, Gunsan College of Nursing, Gunjang College, Baekje College of Arts, Yesu University, Yewon College of Arts, Woosuk University, Wonkwang University, Wonkwang Health Science College, Jeonbuk Science College, Jeonju University, Jeonju Kijeon College, Hanil Jangsin University, Howon University and others.
During this period, the Jeonbuk Regional Remote Education Support Center built, repaired, and upgraded 42 shared studios and developed 31 types of shared content. Around 10,000 students from the 16 universities benefited from remote education.
Even after the project ends in April, JBNU plans to continue supporting sustainable remote education for students in the Jeonbuk region by linking the initiative with the Glocal University 30 project, which emphasizes mutual growth with regional universities and includes measures such as sharing educational content.
A workshop to share and disseminate these achievements was held in Buan on January 22 and 23.
About 50 participants, including center directors, lead professors, and staff from 13 universities including JBNU, attended. The consortium universities presented their major outcomes.
The program also featured a special lecture by Professor Emeritus Seong Tae-je of Ewha Womans University (Vice-Chair, Curriculum Expert Committee, National Education Council) on “Changes in Education and the Development of Remote Education in the Era of AI and Big Data,” and a lecture by Lee Young-jwa, CEO of Energy Science Co., Ltd. (Adjunct Professor, CHA University), on “Color Health Science That Helps a Happy Life,” both of which received strong responses.
Professor Kim Hyun-kyung, Center Director, said, “Sixteen universities in Jeollabuk-do joined forces to jointly utilize LMS, studios, and content, and through inter-university linkage and cooperation achieved outcomes such as credit exchange. After the project ends, JBNU will continue sharing educational content with Jeonbuk-area universities through the Glocal University 30 project.”
