Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Software Engineering (Department Chair Professor Deok‑san Ryu) held the 'Jeonbuk Big Data Technology Exchange Seminar' on January 18 at JBNU Jinsudang Paolo Hall to share and disseminate past achievements in big data technology exchange.
As part of the Big Data Innovation Convergence University Project and co-hosted with the Jeonbuk Big Data Technology Exchange Joint Research Association (Chair Professor Cheol‑jung Yu), the seminar was attended by members of the JBNU Department of Software Engineering, the Big Data Innovation Convergence University Project Group, five central/administrative agencies, 15 public institutions, four academic organizations, companies affiliated with the Jeonbuk ICT Convergence Development Forum, Jeonbuk Bank, and other organizations.
At the seminar, JBNU — which is carrying out the Ministry of Education's 'Digital New Technology Talent Nurturing Innovation Convergence University Project' as a participating university in four fields (big data, new energy industries, aviation/drone, and semiconductors and materials/parts/equipment) — shared progress including the sharing of long‑term educational goals related to big data, the development and operation of joint courses and educational programs, achievements such as the development of PBL courses, and an increase in students completing microdegrees.
In addition, Jeong Kwang‑yong, Technical Advisor at Penta System Technology, delivered a lecture titled 'Trends in the Use of Pseudonymized Data in the Era of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence,' and Tae‑jung Kim, Director at Encoa, presented on 'Effective Use of Generative AI (feat. Knowledge Graph),' sharing diverse information on new technology trends related to big data.
Participants also presented a range of views on big data technologies through discussions and explored possible development measures.
Professor Cheol‑jung Yu of the JBNU Department of Software Engineering, who serves as Chair of the Jeonbuk Big Data Technology Exchange Joint Research Association, said, 'Since its launch in 2020, our research association has signed MOUs with 26 institutions and holds monthly seminars on big data to expand its base,' adding, 'This 47th seminar was held as a commemorative event for Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province together with the JBNU Department of Software Engineering, making it an especially meaningful occasion.'
Professor Deok‑san Ryu, Department Chair of the JBNU Department of Software Engineering, stated, 'Through this seminar we conducted an in‑depth examination of policies and measures for the use of pseudonymized data, as well as procedures and linkage measures for applying knowledge graphs for knowledge representation in the use of generative AI,' adding, 'This provided a valuable opportunity to consider effective ways to utilize the latest big data.'
Meanwhile, the Digital New Technology Talent Nurturing Innovation Convergence University Project is a new 'Korean New Deal' initiative carried out from 2021 to 2026. It operates with the aim of jointly utilizing educational resources in new technology fields scattered across multiple universities and establishing a collaborative system in which industry, research institutes, academic societies, and private organizations participate to cultivate nationally‑level core talent.
Within this framework, JBNU, through the Big Data Innovation Convergence University Project, is expanding access to big data new‑technology education infrastructure for students at regional universities and is also developing educational programs for students at nonparticipating universities and the general public.
