Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Consumer Cooperative donated KRW 150 million in development funds to support the enhancement of the university's competitiveness.
The Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation held a donation ceremony for the development fund on January 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the President's Office at University Headquarters. President Yang O‑bong and key university officials attended, and a plaque of appreciation was presented.
The Coop's development fund has been designated as a fund to enhance the university's competitiveness. It will be used for student work scholarships and to improve welfare conditions on campus, including creating on‑campus welfare spaces and upgrading facilities.
The JBNU Coop, with significant assistance from the university and the efforts of its staff to overcome difficulties during the COVID‑19 period, improved the operations of business sites such as dining halls and convenience stores and generated some profits. To contribute to university development, improve students' educational environment, and uphold the founding purpose of the consumer cooperative, it decided to make the donation.
JBNU Coop Chairman Kim Jong‑seok said, "I hope the university becomes one in which the consumer cooperative can grow stably," and added, "The JBNU Coop's staff will continue to work steadily to create business sites that serve all university members."
He also said, "We will become the best cooperative befitting the university's stature by enabling the purchase of high‑quality products more affordably and conveniently," and "We will promote the cooperative's value, increase the benefits available to members, and continue to contribute development funds on an ongoing basis."
