Through the Glocal University 30 Project, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (President Yang Oh-bong), which has set a goal of attracting 5,000 international students, has established a foothold for exchange and cooperation in China’s inland regions.
The Office of International Affairs (Director Jo Hwa-rim) visited high schools in Henan Province and universities in Shaanxi Province from January 4 to 11 to closely discuss inter-school cooperation for recruiting outstanding local students.
The delegation, led by Kim Jeong-su, Director of the Division of Language Education, and including Bae Jin-suk, Administrative Director of the Office of International Affairs, and Lee Min-hyung, Operations Team Leader of the Division of Language Education, visited the No. 3 Senior High School, Nushan County, Pingdingshan City, and Luhashi Experimental Secondary Vocational School in Henan. They explained JBNU’s strengths and key plans to become an internationalization hub under the Glocal University 30 Project to the local school principals and staff.
In particular, at the No. 3 Senior High School in Nushan County, the parties agreed to pursue the establishment of an international Korean-language class to prepare students for future admission to JBNU. They plan to support local students so they can receive professional and systematic Korean language education. They pledged to work together to create a virtuous cycle in which this education leads to study at JBNU.
In addition, Director Kim held an in-depth admissions briefing on JBNU for the visiting schools’ principals, staff, and about 100 local high school students interested in studying at JBNU. The session drew strong interest from local students.
Director Kim introduced JBNU’s Korean language education capabilities, undergraduate admissions, and programs such as Feeling Korea to the students. Chinese students interested in JBNU also took the opportunity to clarify their plans to study abroad through detailed Q&A.
The JBNU delegation also visited a Shaanxi garment engineering college, where they met with international cooperation officers to explain and discuss various study-abroad programs in detail for students aiming to transfer to JBNU or pursue master’s and doctoral degrees.
Kim Jeong-su, Director of the Division of Language Education at JBNU, said, “JBNU was selected for the Republic of Korea government’s core Glocal University 30 Project. We are pursuing educational innovation and striving to become a global hub university. We will do our best to help many Chinese students enroll at JBNU and realize their dreams as global talents.”
Meanwhile, the Office of International Affairs at JBNU continues to hold university promotional and admissions briefings for local Chinese high school students who wish to enter JBNU. Those students are expected to complete the Division of Language Education’s Korean language training program before enrolling in degree programs.
