Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Archives and History Museum (Director Kim Eun-hee) is holding a special JBNU history exhibition, 'Old Jeolla Line Railway: Memories and the JBNU Community,' in the museum's central hall as part of the National University Promotion Project through February 23 (Friday).
The old Jeolla Line train, which departed from Iri Station (now Iksan Station) and passed through Samnye, Dongsan Station, Buk-Jeonju Station, Deokjin Station (now Deokjin Square), and Jeonju Station (now Jeonju City Hall), crossed the city of Jeonju and shared the lives and memories of its citizens.
The Jeolla Line train also served as transportation for members of the JBNU community, and the railway that passed by JBNU's main gate (now the West Gate) became a familiar sight on the way to and from campus and a common photo spot in graduation albums.
This exhibition presents around 40 photographs, graduation albums, and other materials that recall the everyday lives of Jeonju citizens along the former Jeolla Line route and traces of the university's early JBNU community members.
A photo zone has also been set up where visitors can leave memories with the now-defunct Deokjin Station and the steam locomotive once used by JBNU commuters as the backdrop. It is expected to provide a valuable opportunity not only for university members but also to evoke local residents' nostalgia for JBNU.
Kim Eun-hee, director of the JBNU Archives and History Museum, said, 'The museum will continue to develop historical and cultural content and open and share it with the local community in various formats, such as exhibitions,' adding, 'We will also work to expand the region's cultural resources through JBNU.'
