Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has been implementing a range of employment support measures to strengthen the employment competencies of students with disabilities, and these have received a strong response.

JBNU Office of Student Career Support (Director: Professor Hwang Ji-wook) held special lectures on using ChatGPT for students with disabilities in the Honam region on January 10 and 11.

The lectures were organized to provide students with disabilities in the Honam region with opportunities to prepare for employment more efficiently through practical training using ChatGPT for tasks such as writing personal statements and preparing for interviews.

Choi Min-gyu, CEO of the Knowledge Content Research Institute and an expert in the field, delivered a lecture on practical ways to use ChatGPT immediately in academic work and know-how for using ChatGPT to prepare for employment. All lectures were conducted online via Zoom to accommodate the mobility difficulties of students with disabilities.

This attentive employment support for students with disabilities by JBNU began in 2019. Over five years, JBNU has continuously operated employment support programs and held public institution recruitment briefings in cooperation with the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled and industry for a total of 31 universities in the Honam region and 1,396 students with disabilities.

In November last year, JBNU, together with the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled and ten hub universities supporting students with disabilities, held a recruitment briefing for students with disabilities using the metaverse virtual space, which received a strong response from students who have relative difficulty with mobility.

Through the metaverse-based platform, JBNU provided real-time live recruitment briefings, one-to-one tailored consultations with company recruiters and employment experts, and customized online employment information for students with disabilities. The initiative was praised for providing high-quality job information to students who have difficulty obtaining corporate recruitment information for positions targeting people with disabilities.

Hwang Ji-wook, Director of the JBNU Office of Student Career Support, said, "We are implementing a variety of employment support measures for students with disabilities so that those who have difficulty with mobility or accessing various employment-related information can more easily access recruitment information and acquire up-to-date job preparation know-how. We will further strengthen employment-related support for students with disabilities and strive to actively open opportunities so that students with disabilities can freely pursue their aspirations in the occupations they desire."
